OVERVIEW
The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (Cambridge IGCSE) is an internationally recognised qualification designed for students aged 14 to 16. It is offered by the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), which is a part of the University of Cambridge.
The Cambridge IGCSE is based on a learner-centred approach emphasising active participation and problem-solving skills. It encourages students to develop critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills that are essential for success in higher education and in the workplace.
Assessment in the Cambridge IGCSE is based on a variety of methods, including coursework, practical assessments, and written exams. It provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in a range of formats and contexts.
Overall, the Cambridge IGCSE provides a high-quality, internationally recognised qualification that prepares students for success in a rapidly changing world. It is widely recognised by universities, employers, and governments around the world as evidence of academic achievement and proficiency in English.
The Preparatory Course for Cambridge IGCSE in Academies Australasia College covers a range of subjects, including Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Languages, and Business Studies. It provides a flexible and broad-based approach to education that allows students to develop essential skills, knowledge, and understanding across multiple disciplines. It also prepares students for further academic study, including the Cambridge International AS and A-levels, Singapore Junior Colleges, and Singapore Polytechnics, as well as other qualifications such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
The objective of this course is to prepare students for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examinations, giving them a better understanding and overview of the Cambridge IGCSE Examinations academic subjects. Students will be trained with continual formative weekly, monthly and end-of-term assessments, which allow them to manage their time, examine pressure, stimulate critical thinking and active recall of concepts in an actual exam setting and perform at their optimum level.
PATHWAY PROGRESSION
In Singapore, students who have completed their IGCSE can progress to various pathways depending on their goals and academic achievements. Here are some possible pathways:
-
Junior College: Students who have performed well in their IGCSE can choose to enrol in a Junior College (JC) for a two-year pre-university course. This will prepare them for the GCE A-level examinations, which will determine their eligibility for admission into local universities.
-
Polytechnic: Students who prefer a more hands-on and vocational approach can choose to enrol in a Polytechnic for a three-year diploma course. Polytechnics offer a wide range of courses in fields such as business, engineering, design, and health sciences, among others. Upon completion, students can choose to enter the workforce or pursue further studies in a university.
-
International Baccalaureate: Some international schools in Singapore offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma programme, which is a two-year pre-university course that prepares students for university education. The IB is recognised by universities worldwide and emphasises critical thinking, research skills, and community service.
-
Private Schools: Some private schools in Singapore offer various courses and programmes that cater to the needs of students who have completed their IGCSE. These schools may offer diploma or degree programmes that are recognized locally or internationally.
-
Further Education Outside Singapore: Students who have completed their IGCSE outside Singapore may choose to pursue their A-levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, or vocational training in their home country or in another country.
It is important to note that the above pathways are not exhaustive, and students should do their own research and consult with their teachers or guidance counsellors to determine the best pathway for their individual goals and aspirations.
